The Beast Tight End Pop Pass is my favorite pass play for youth football teams from the Beast Offense in the Power Wing Beast Offense playbook. It is a quick hitting pass that works great when the Defense is bunched up with 8 to 10 in the box to stop the Beast Power Play – Tank and the Beast Wedge – Honey Badger / Wild Weasel.
The TE Pop pass is used by all levels of football because it is a highly effective pass play, especially when you have trouble pass blocking for pass protection. Get it out of the passer’s hands quickly and downfield to an open TD running for glory. We audible – Kentucky Fried Chicken – to a TE Pop Pass from almost all of our formations not just the Beast formation.
Below is the Beast TE Pop Pass in the Base Beast Formation with an unbalanced offensive line. The unbalanced alignment definitely makes it crucial to get the pass play off quick and the two blocking backs to backdoor block quickly. But if the defense has sold out on the stopping the Beast Power Play this quick hitting pass play is devastating to the defense.
We have both TE go out usually in this Beast Tight End pass play called Popeye. Our main target is the backside TE, since the playside TE will likely get caught up on the O-line. We ask QB / Beast Back to take one step and the football is out. Do not look for the laces, get the football out if you can. We sometimes adjust this if the defense is looking for the quick Popeye and we will drop 3 steps and throw a deeper pass on a quick stop n go.
Below is the Beast Offense Tight End Pop pass in the BUC or Beast Under Center and even offensive line alignment. I use this formation quite a bit in a 3 play series combined with Beast Tank & Honey Badger in BUC. This series should be run by any offense as a short yardage package.
I use the Even alignment for most pass plays and counter plays at the youth level especially below 10U. The Even set really helps with the pass protection blocking. Plus you can easily leak the 2 back out on a quick out route which adds to the sophistication of the play.
