Beast Offense Wedge plays along with the Beast Tank are the two top anchor backbone plays in the Power Wing Beast Offense playbook for youth football. These two plays are unstoppable youth football plays out of the power running Beast formation. Maybe my top two favorite plays in youth football. I know they make my Best Youth Football plays lists all the time. I love the Wedge play in any formation for youth football teams.
Below is the Beast Offense Wedge plays diagram in an unbalanced Beast formation and the other in an Beast Under Center Even Oline with a Wedge Offensive Tackles tag. The latter with Wedge Tackles is a favorite of mine.
In the Beast Wedge play in the Base unbalanced alignment the Beast Back will run behind the Power Guard and merge into the scrum at this point attack. The Center must be quick to join the Wedge otherwise there is a gap which will kill the Wedge play.
For this reason I will usually run the Wedge in the BUC Even Wedge Tackles alignment in the second play diagram above. The Center does not have to move as quick and we can get a better exchange to the Beast Back. The two bigger OTs can help the Center too by picking him up as the Tip of the Spear. I usually love to have a big Center.
As you can see in the video near bottom of the page, having the Beast Back under center helps with his invisibly to the defense. In shotgun the Beast Back is very easy to read under center not so much. Plus the play is quicker under center.

- Beast Back – Receives Snap / Runs Wedge behind Center (Guard) – guards and merges with scrum then “Fire” breaks at scrum stall
- 4 Back – Blocks Backdoor Edge Rushers
- 3 Back – Fakes a Sweep
- 2 Back – Blocks Edge Rushers
- Y – Wedge Block
- PT – Wedge Block
- T – Wedge Block
- PG – Wedge Block
- C – Wedge Block
- G – Wedge Block
- X – Wedge Block
Beast Wedge Play Highlight Video
Below is a BUC Beast Even Wedge with Wedge Tackles against the #1 defense in the 12U division in a highly competitive youth league in North Texas. The Beast Back who ran it was one of my Best Beast Backs ever. Great run and fakes by this Vikings youth football team about 10 years ago now.
Watch carefully as the under center Beast Back gets even more indivisible in the scrum and then breaks left for the TD. Plus the Defense really focused on the Mouse faking the sweep. Cool stuff.
